The Projects
Eight projects make up our Town Deal programme.
Public Places in the Heart of Todmorden
Bramsche Square lies between three fine heritage buildings, Todmorden Market, Central Methodist Church and Grade I listed Todmorden Town Hall. As a multi-purpose public space for our events and festivals, alongside a reconfigured and enhanced Pollination Street and ‘town green’, this investment will transform the heart of our town.
Town Deal funding will:
- Create a flexible town square capable of supporting a range of events
- Improve the experience of the outdoor market by improving access and services
- Provide increased green space and planting
- Change perceptions by residents, businesses & visitors.

Enterprise in the Heart of Todmorden
A new energy-efficient enterprise centre will house 20 flexible business units that aim to attract modern jobs to Todmorden as well as providing affordable rented opportunities for home-workers to go to work.
Town Deal funding will:
- Create twenty units offering contemporary, energy efficient, affordable rented workspace
- Attract creative and digital businesses to bring skilled jobs to Todmorden
- Offer links with schools and TLCCH (Tod College) to develop opportunities for young people to work in skilled jobs in their town
- Provide potential for 19 affordable rented 1 and 2-bed homes.

A comprehensive project to restore and improve facilities in Centre Vale Park, the town’s principal green space, extending the park’s diverse recreational offer and strengthening its use as a social community hub.
Town Deal funding will:
- Create a new Hard Surface/ Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) for young people
- Refurbish existing three Tennis Courts
- Extend the Bowls Pavilion
- Restore/refurbish the Grade 2 Listed Bandstand
- Improve the environmental performance of Grade II Listed Fielden Hall.
Centre Vale Park & Fielden Hall
A comprehensive project to restore and improve facilities in Centre Vale Park, the town’s principal green space, extending the park’s diverse recreational offer and strengthening its use as a social community hub.
Town Deal funding will:
- Create a new Hard Surface/ Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) for young people
- Refurbish the existing three Tennis Courts
- Extend the Bowls Pavilion
- Restore/refurbish the Grade 2 Listed Bandstand
- Improve the environmental performance of Grade II Listed Fielden Hall.
Hippodrome Theatre
The project is to extend into space currently occupied by the single-storey unit next to The Hippodrome Theatre and to refurbish the existing entrance spaces into the theatre to create an accessible new performance space and enable more creative arts opportunities, jobs and training, especially for young people.
Town Deal funding will:
- Create additional performance, event, and rehearsal spaces
- Improve accessibility for all to the Hippodrome and our events, including a new lift to all levels of the new extension
- Create a community cinema
- Present a much wider range of events, including daytime events.
Hippodrome Theatre
The project is to extend into space currently occupied by the single-storey unit next to The Hippodrome Theatre and to refurbish the existing entrance spaces into the theatre to create an accessible new performance space and enable more creative arts opportunities, jobs and training, especially for young people.
Town Deal funding will:
- Create additional performance, event, and rehearsal spaces
- Improve accessibility for all to the Hippodrome and our events, including a new lift to all levels of the new extension
- Create a community cinema
- Present a much wider range of events, including daytime events.
Todmorden Town Hall
The Town Hall will become an attractive and fully accessible building available for events, functions and workspace. The investment will realise the potential of this much-loved building to be valued and fully used by the community.
Town Deal funding will:
- Enable the Grand Entrance to be (re)opened up directly into the Victorian lobby and winding staircase
- Create a new reception / information / display area, with drinks facility
- Create a new catering kitchen on the first floor along with changes to the bar
- Provide installation of a PA system in the main hall.
Todmorden Town Hall
The Town Hall will become an attractive and fully accessible building available for events, functions and workspace. The investment will realise the potential of this much-loved building to be valued and fully used by the community.
Town Deal funding will:

- Greater energy efficiency through insulation, glazing improvements, and installation of renewable energy systems
- Better internal environment including the reception area and refurbishment of meeting rooms
- A new mini co-working and hot-desking space
- A state-of-the-art community kitchen and food learning space.

- Collaboration with local schools to develop and house a Forest School
- All ability cycling track to enable all to gain confidence and learn
- Playing field improvements to reach high standards for schools, clubs, and individuals
- Repairs and refurbishment to the pavilion building including: modern changing facilities, a larger indoor activity space, social space and equipment storage.
