Our winning town…
Todmorden scooped Britain’s Best Small Indoor Market award in January 2018. Not content with that, we launched the Incredible Festival of Ideas and went on to beat stiff competition to win the coveted ‘Rising Star’ category in the Great British High Street Awards that very same year.
Building on our success and driven by the collective momentum and enterprising spirit we are renowned for, a host of our civic, business and community organisations came together for DestinationTOD – a workshop to hatch plans for the town’s long-term sustainability and growth.
We are so much MORe
DestinationTOD identified that Todmorden has much MORe to offer still. A fantastic award-winning market, superb heritage assets and an unbeatable landscape are just the start. Add in an inclusive diverse community bursting with creativity, determination, civic pride and endless ambition for our town and there’s nothing we cannot achieve!
Our unifying town brand, ‘There Is MORe In TodMORden’ emerged through DestinationTOD – so when the Town’s Fund came along the brand was a natural choice for the Town Deal Board to capture and communicate our vision for Todmorden.
We are MORe than able to transform our potential!
Cometh the Town’s Fund, cometh the Town…
Community consultation, collective action, kindness and hard work over the last decade puts us in pole position to bid for up to £25M from the Town’s Fund.
We’ve built the foundations, won the awards and are investment-ready.
We have assembled the local skills and expertise to ensure robust management, a new and popular Citizens’ Assembly supporting the local leadership of the Town Deal Board, and our young people are engaged at the centre of shaping the vision.
Our legacy will not only sustain and inspire the next generation of leaders for our town, but will also build on our enduring enthusiasm for change to achieve ever greater benefit for many years to come.
Town Investment Plan
In February 2021 the Board submitted Todmorden’s Town Investment Plan to the government for review & approval.

The Vision for Todmorden
Our vision is a thriving, resilient market town which capitalises on its unique landscape, its environment, and its renowned community activism and enterprising spirit.
Todmorden will have a strong visitor economy and be a beacon for social and environmental enterprise, creative industries and healthy living.
Some Key Objectives
Redevelop the heart of the town centre to create a vibrant destination which is attractive to visitors & residents alike
To improve the town centre experience and be friendly for walkers, cyclists & people with limited mobility
To refurbish and maximise the potential of our cultural & heritage assets
Build on the strength of the town’s arts, music & cultural sectors
Provide high quality opportunities in education and training as a foundation for a more prosperous & sustainable future
Grow the visitor economy to become the gateway to the Calder Valley, and to Leeds & Manchester
Continue to advocate for sustainability and contribute towards net zero carbon
As a town invited to submit a bid for £25m investment from the Towns Fund, Todmorden has been given an advanced payment of £500k to spend on smaller community projects, which still must meet the criteria, but can be implemented within a much quicker timescale.
Selected projects include; new Christmas lights (2020), a cargo bike delivery service, a new ‘wheels park’ and other improvements at Centre Vale Park, improvements at the Town Hall (inc. the restoration of the railings already completed), the Hippodrome, Unitarian Church Lodge, plus new bike stands in the town centre.
More details on the projects coming soon…
