Introduction
The project will improve walking and cycling routes in Todmorden to make the town more accessible. The changes will promote healthier communities and create a more attractive and welcoming town.
This project’s objective is to enable people to walk or cycle as part of their everyday journeys, allowing more people to access and enjoy Todmorden’s natural landscape.
This includes:
-
Creating walking and cycling routes to strengthen Todmorden’s offering as a place for outdoor activities.
-
Creating a number of new cycle parking spaces throughout Todmorden
-
Improving pedestrian access, including links between Todmorden Rail Station and the town centre
-
Creating more attractive and pleasant public spaces in the town centre
-
Upgrading the existing crossing at Centre Vale Park to create a crossing for cyclists and pedestrians to use
-
Improving signage with clearer information for residents and visitors
-
Creating safer, greener cycling and pedestrian routes in and around the town centre
-
Linking the town’s walking and cycling network to regional and national routes, such as the Rochdale Canal and Pennine Way.

Air Quality
We’re making changes to help reduce the number of car journeys and ease traffic congestion to improve air quality.
Accessibility
We’re making improvements to the town centre to support people with mobility needs and allow more people to visit and enjoy all that Todmorden has to offer.
