Introduction

A comprehensive project to restore and extend the use of Centre Vale Park, strengthening its role as the town’s principal green space and its potential as a social, community hub alongside upgraded facilities in the adjoining Fielden Hall.

Specifically, the project will include:

  • Works to improve the environmental performance of Grade II Listed Fielden Hall
  • Acquisition and restoration of two residential properties that book-end Fielden Hall, these will be refurbished to deliver 2 environmentally sustainable affordable rented units
  • A new hard-surfaced ball court/ multi-use games area
  •  A new pavilion with accommodation for both the tennis and bowling activities that will cater for disabled and non-disabled players, host regional and national competitions and provide enhanced community meeting space
  • Refurbishment of the bandstand (Grade II Listed Building)

  • Refurbish three tennis courts and secure their sustainable use with the relocation of the Club to the park
  • Accommodation for a growing project involving veterans and Todmorden in Bloom.

Project Outline

We will introduce brand new facilities and bring much-loved features of Centre Vale Park back into use. Todmorden’s major green space will be more accessible, and its potential to offer high-quality sports, leisure, arts and cultural activities and events, will be realised.

The work undertaken will support the voluntary groups who operate in Centre Vale by providing a new, shared base for their activities, and helping them to become more financially sustainable.

What It Will Achieve

  • New Hard Surface/ Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) for young people
  • Refurbish existing three Tennis Courts
  • Extend the Bowls Pavilion
  • Restore/refurbish the Grade 2 Listed Bandstand
  • Fielden Hall – improve the energy efficiency of Fielden Hall

Progress So Far

  • Our Full Business Case to government to request investment for our project from the £17.5M allocation to Todmorden Town Deal has been approved
  • Acquisition and restoration of two residential properties that book-end Fielden Hall, have been refurbished to create two environmentally sustainable affordable rented units by our partner, Calder Valley Community Land Trust.

The Next Steps

  • Make Grant applications for additional funding needed
  • Obtain Planning Permissions / Listed Building consents
  • Issue tenders for construction works
  • Appoint contractors
  • Completion of works March – Sept 2024.

About The Project Lead

Todmorden Council is the project partner for Centre Vale Park. They have stepped up to undertake leadership of the Centre Vale Park, following our project management of the new Wheels Park already installed in the park, thanks to Town Deal Accelerator funding.
