THE HIPPODROME THEATRE
The Hippodrome is one of the UK’s largest community-run theatres and has been owned and run by the Todmorden Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (TAODS) for over 50 years.
The “Raise the Roof” Town Deal project will extend and refurbish this much-loved building to enable more performances and activities for Todmorden residents, bringing more visitors into town, boosting the local economy and offering more people, especially young people, life changing opportunities in the creative industries and performing arts.
WHAT’S INVOLVED:
Extending the existing theatre building to create a new fully accessible performance space
A new cinema space
A new space to allow for the expansion of our youth theatre section
Additional public spaces and refurbishment of existing spaces to increase number of events
Increased daytime use of the building to promote footfall along Halifax Road and an increase in visitors to Todmorden
A new off-site storage unit to increase the amount of public space available
More employment opportunities for people working in the creative arts
A new dedicated archive space to celebrate the history of the Hippodrome
